I am not currently enrolled on a course with Think Online Training
If you are not currently enrolled on a course with us, you will need to attend the exam centre to complete some Initial Assessments and mock tests under exam conditions BEFORE sitting your exam.
The Initial Assessment & mock test is a requirement because:
1. It ensures you are 100% ready for your final exams.
2. It will give you an idea of your current level and whether you are likely to pass.
3. Should you need to resit, you will need to pay your exam fees again so these assessments are designed to help you save time and money in the long run.
The assessments cost £50 for invigilator time and resources. It can take 3-4 hours to complete these assessments and you must pass these assessments before we can accept you for an exam.
We strongly recommend enrolling on the course before taking an exam.

I am currently enrolled on a course with Think Online Training. Can I book my exam online?
No. If you’re currently studying with us, you’ll need to contact your tutor to book your exams. Please don’t book your exam via this page.
How much is the exam?
Exams cost £346 total. This includes your £50 pre-assessment plus £296 exam fees for the final exams.
What is a pre-assessment?
A pre-assessment includes an Initial and Diagnostic Assessment, a Reading mock exam, and a Writing mock exam all done under exam conditions. This must be sat at one of our exam centres and can take 3-4 hours. It costs £50 for invigilator time and resources and is non-refundable. All exam candidates must sit the pre-assessment.
Why do I need to come in for a pre-assessment?
Our pre-assessments are designed to help you in the long run! They will give you an idea as to whether you’re ready for the final examination so you can avoid paying for additional resits later down the line. If you don’t pass your pre-assessment, unfortunately we cannot register you for an exam and will recommend doing a programme of learning.
I've been studying with another provider. Do I still need to do the pre-assessment?
Yes. As explained in the question above, the pre-assessment is required in order to sit your exam and must be a pass to sit the final examination.
When can I sit my pre-assessment/exam?
Pre-assessments are held Tuesday to Thursday at 10:00am. We will need at least 3 working days notice.
Exams are held every Friday at 12:30pm. Payment of exam fees and confirmation of your exam date will be made after passing your pre-assessment.
Where can I sit my pre-assessment/exam?
We have exam centres in Grimsby, Hull, Leeds, Ashton-under-Lyne and Stockport.
What exam board is used?
We use City & Guilds for all of our Functional Skills Exams.
What is the duration of the exam?
Reading - 1 hour
Writing - 1 hour 20 minutes
Speaking & Listening - up to 30 minutes
Is the exam on-screen or paper-based?
On-screen. Unfortunately we do not offer paper-based examinations.
What if I need to cancel, refund or reschedule my exam/pre-assessment?
You can cancel or reschedule your final exam upto 3 working days before the agreed date. If you need to cancel within 3 working days of your exam, you will not receive a refund and may be charged again for any additional exam bookings.
The pre-assessment can be rescheduled but not refunded.
When will I get my results for the final exam?
It can take up to 6 weeks to get your results for the final exam, plus postage time.
If you need your results quickly, we can provide an e-certificate while your certificates are in the post.
