These qualifications can be completed at your own pace but are also a quick alternative to other options such as retaking the entire year.

If you want to progress onto university, it’s likely that you’ll need maths and English to secure a place. Without them, your university might ask you to gain the qualifications before they accept your application, or will ask you to complete an extra ‘foundation year’ so you can pass them at uni.

Most employers ask for at least a C or above in both maths and English, so even if you don’t want to move onto higher education, it’s essential that you improve your grades in order to help you to secure a job.
