Failed your GCSEs?

Functional Skills Maths and English Level 2 are equivalent to a GCSE pass grade. Resit your GCSEs at home and at your own pace with an online Functional Skills course.

What to do if you failed English or maths

As of 2016, it’s a Government requirement that all students who fail to secure at least a grade 4 in GCSE English and maths will need to resit their exams.

GCSE results day has come around and unfortunately you didn’t pass your maths and English.

Although it might seem like the end of the world, there are many options that you can take if you do fail your GCSEs including a Functional Skills course.

Most schools will offer you the chance to re-take your exams in November, so you’ll have plenty of time to brush up your knowledge before your resits.

Why do I need to resit?

Although it is a Government requirement, it’s also really important that you get your GCSEs to help with your future employment prospects.

If you want to progress onto university, it’s likely that you’ll need maths and English to secure a place. Without them, your university might ask you to gain the qualifications before they accept your application, or will ask you to complete an extra ‘foundation year’ so you can pass them at uni.

Most employers ask for at least a C or above in both maths and English, so even if you don’t want to move onto higher education, it’s essential that you improve your grades in order to help you to secure a job.

How can Functional Skills help me?

Unfortunately, if you fail the exam again, you will still be required to resit. But your best option might be to complete a Functional Skills qualification instead.

Functional Skills are commonly known as ‘stepping stone’ qualifications and are designed to give you knowledge that can be applied in real life.

Our online courses can be a great option for students who are struggling to pass their GCSEs.

These qualifications can be completed at your own pace but are also a quick alternative to other options such as retaking the entire year.
