GCSE English Equivalent

Do you want to apply for a job, higher education course, University or apprenticeship that requires a GCSE English pass grade or equivalent? The GCSE English equivalent being referred to is Functional Skills English Level 2.

For many people, Functional Skills English Level 2 is a much better alternative to a GCSE English resit. The advantages of Level 2 English include;

    • Functional Skills English Level 2 uses practical real-life examples to help you improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. If you prefer a more practical and applied learning style, you’ll find Level 2 English much easier than GCSE English.

  • You’ll be able to book and take your Functional Skills English exam as soon as you’re ready. And you’ll get your results more quickly than your GCSE results. It can be up to a 6 month wait for GCSE English exams. Get your qualification more quickly with Functional Skills English and move on to the next step in your career.
  • There are fewer exams, 3 instead of 4, and the exams are much shorter than GCSE English exams.

Does your job application, course application or apprenticeship application state you need at least GCSE English Level 4 or 5 (grade C) or equivalent? If so, Functional Skills English Level 2 is a great alternative.

Please be aware that while Functional Skills English Level 2 is widely accepted as an equivalent to a GCSE pass grade, there are exceptions. Especially for courses and careers where English is prevalent, like journalism for example, only a GCSE pass may be accepted.
